Highly-Rated Chelsea Teen Midfielder Ready To Play For Nigeria After England Snub
Published: July 02, 2016Chelsea starlet Tariq Uwakwe will not turn down the opportunity to represent Nigeria at U20 level if he is called up to the national team by the Nigeria Football Federation.
Born in North London to a Nigerian dad, the midfielder can also turn out for England internationally but has not yet been invited to any of their youth teams, and is now willing to play for the African powerhouse because of the snub from the country of his birth.
“Tariq wants to play for Nigeria as England has not yet called him up, ” a top source close to the Chelsea teen told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“He wants to play for both England and Nigeria but for Nigeria he would prefer the U20s, Flying Eagles. For now, he is focusing on Chelsea. ”
The 16-year-old Uwakwe is regarded as one of the most promising youngsters at Chelsea and was one of the ten new scholars that started pre-season training with the U18s early this week.
He has been on the books of the Londoners since the age of eight.
