Nigerian Coaches Caution NFF : Drop Idea Of Hiring Foreign Coach
Published: June 28, 2016The President of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA), Bitrus Bewarang, has again cautioned the Nigeria Football Association to drop the idea of hiring of a foreign coach for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
He made this caution in view of Nigeria’s preparation for the World Cup Africa’s qualifying series scheduled to kick off soon.
Bewarang said that it is time for the NFF to give the coaches the rightful place rather than taking technical decisions without the input of the coaches.
He said that the difficult group Nigeria find herself calls for a home grown approach to getting the ticket for Russia 2018.
He emphasized that those who understand the African football terrain, especially Nigerian coaches, should be given the opportunity to handle the Super Eagles.
He used the opportunity to pay tribute to Stephen Keshi and Amodu Shaibu describing them as World Class Coaches who were not sufficiently so recognized until their death.
He asked the NFF as a mark of respect for these coaches look inwards and identify from the pool of competent coaches in Nigeria and appoint the Super Eagles coach.
He asked a simple question. “Is there anything wrong if you support the current Super Eagles Coach to carry-on with the work he has started rather than bringing a foreign coach to mess up an on-going work? ”
He also reminded the NFF that the current economic realities call for a reduction in any form of capital flight including hiring of a foreign coach.
He advised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to take the proactive step of relying on the home based coaches and not otherwise.
