Nigeria U23s Star Umar Aminu Set For Showdown Talks With Osmanlispor Over Participation At Olympic Games
Published: April 20, 2016Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Osmanlıspor striker Umar Aminu is set to hold showdown talks with the management of the Turkish Super Lig side over his participation in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
Several times in 2015, the Ankara-based team blocked him from representing the Nigeria U23s in official tournaments, including the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, because they fell outside Fifa’s window for international games.
Now, nothing has changed as Fifa clarified in September 2015 that Euro clubs are not obligated to release their players to the national associations, meaning it is not yet cast in stone that Aminu will be wearing the Nigeria colours in Brazil.
Umar Aminu wants to play at the Olympic Games but Osmanlıspor expect him to resume pre-season training with the club around one month before the start of the competition.
Both parties hope to reach a compromise when talks are held in the coming days.
