Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Honourable Boma Iyaye has congratulated Rivers United following their impressive 3-2 victory against Ikorodu United on Sunday.
Guy Kuemian, Chukwunonso Okonkwo and Wilson Andoh all scored in the first half as the Pride of Rivers overcame Ikorodu United by the odd goal in five at the Onikan Stadium in a rip roaring match day nine Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) contest.
Honourable Iyaye acknowledges that the win on Sunday was heart-warming but warned that all playing and coaching staff of the club must continue to put their feet firmly on the ground as the road to success is a long walk.
“I want to congratulate Rivers United for this hard-fought victory over Ikorodu United but then the players and coaches at the club need to understand that it is not yet uhuru.
“The road to success is a long walk and so they must remain resolute, committed and hard working in training and matches.
“I also want to use this medium to tell them that the Rivers State Government will continue to prioritize their welfare all through the season,” Honourable Iyaye said.
Rivers United is currently in seventh place on the NPFL standings with 13 points from nine matches.
