Rivers United Now To Travel By Air

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club, Rivers United will no longer embark on road trips for domestic matches.
This follows the successful talks between sponsors of the club, the Rivers State Goverment and an Airline operator .
Explaining the rationale behind the move, Rivers State State Sports Commissioner, Honourable Bom Iyaye said it is in line with the blueprint of making the club the foremost Nigerian side in the country.
“It’s now official. Rivers United will now travel by air for all away matches to Northern and Western regions of Nigeria (United are based in Port Harcourt, Southern Nigeria).
“This is courtesy the Rivers State Government as we strive to become a truly professional football club.
“It is also a form of motivation for our players in the shape of reducing fatigue of as a result of long road trips to honour league fixtures,” Iyaye said.
The Commissioner of sports, while addressing the players encouraged them not to disappoint Rivers citizens in their quest to be the foremost football club in Nigeria.
United are currently in ninth place in the NPFL standings with three points from two matches in the two-week old season.
