Rivers United Match-Winner Obomate Frederick Reveals He Has Been Studying Deco
Published: February 21, 2016
Rivers United midfielder, Obomate Frederick has identified former F.C. Barcelona superstar, Deco as the motivation behind his exceptional freekicks.
The midfielder curled home a beauty in the 65th minute of Rivers United’s 1-0 win over champions, Enyimba in a well-fought Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game decided at the Yakubu Gowon (former Liberation) stadium, Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Obomate says he always works hard in training to perfect his skills at hitting a pin head from range but stated in no unclear terms that Deco remains his go to guy.
“(Before I took the free kick), I knew the hour had come (to score). I scored from a similar position against Warri Wolves and Enugu Rangers (last season).
“I give God the glory for the goal because I knew I was going to score.
“I practice free kicks in training and Deco was the player I learn from, just by watching him on television,” Obomate said.
The midfielder has now gone into the record books as the first player to score for Rivers United in a competitive fixture.
