Pre-season tourney: Eight Supreme Court players Beat Lobi Stars, Shoot Into Final

History was made on Wednesday in the South-western part of the country part when only eight players of Supreme Court football club of Abuja at the ongoing Gold Cup Pre-season tournament defeated Lobi stars of Makurdi 4-3 on penalties during semi-final encounter and marched straight to the final.
The Apex Boys as the Supreme Court soccer outfit are fondly known defied all odds inside Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State to set up a final clash with former Nigeria Professional Football League champions Kano Pillars who earlier beat Crown FC of Ogbomosho 2-1.
It was an encounter which began and peddled on amidst refereeing controversies with Coach Joachim Osuji-led Supreme side playing with only 10 players before Clifford Gber put his team ahead in 73rd minute of play.
Supreme’s Issac Peter was given a red card in the 42nd minute.
Not until ulmost stoppage time before Centre Referee awarded the Makurdi team penalty in the 87th minute to level score before Chinedu Chukwura and goal scorer Ager of Supreme Court were sent off.
But this did not deter not more than eight Supreme players who pulled the game till the end before it was dragged into penalty shoot-out.
Coach Osuji whose joy knew no bound attributed the victory to God and firm support he gets from Supreme Court FC management coupled with the determination of his lads to begin 2015/16 football season on a good note.
En-route to the semi-final, the rampaging Apex Boys shocked NPFL top team Giwa fc of Jos 1-0, hammered FC Ebedei 2-0 before settling for goalless draw with Pillars in the final group match on Monday.
The epic final encounter is slated for Friday.
