Oyo Speaker Shows Support For Soccer, Donates Cup

Michael Adeyemo has demonstrated great concern for the dwindling fortune of grassroots football in the state and Nigeria as a whole and has decided to institute a competition that will be play among the 33 local government councils the state.
Adeyemo, who disclosed this while hosting Oyo State Football Association’s members in his office on Thursday, expressed his desire to have a club from the Ibarapa axis of the state competing in Nigeria National League, the lawmaker however paid the sum of N40,000 naira to FA to register a grassroots team, Soccer Wizard from Eruwa to participate in the 2016 State Federation Cup.
He recalled how he had played for Oyo State selected teams during his school days and rues the dearth of credible sports competition for schools again.
The chairman of Oyo FA, Chief James Odeniran in his response to the Speaker’s gesture thanked the lawmaker for showing concern for the football development in the state while urging other well meaning individuals in the state to emulate the speaker.
He added that the soccer competition tagged ‘the Speaker’ Cup’ would be played among grassroots team from the 33 local governments in the state, and all the modalities on the format the tourney will took would soon be release by the FA for all the intending participants.
