Dream Team Walk Tight Rope After 2 -1 Win Against Congo
Published: July 19, 2015The Nigeria U23 national team, the Dream Team VI defeated their Congolese counterparts 2-1 in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games first leg match played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
Congo, it will be recalled, sent out highly rated Ghana to set up a clash with the Dream Team VI.
Head coach of the visitors Claude Leroy is on record to be the first coach to beat the Super Eagles in their fortress in Calabar last year during an AFCON qualifying match.
Football analysts believe that the Sunday clash was expected to be interesting because the Super Eagles paid back Leroy and his chargers back with a 2-0 win in Brazzaville during the same AFCON qualifying match.
And the fans were treated to a spectacle by the two sides.
Junior Ajayi bagged a brace for Nigeria before Moise Kounkou pulled one back for the Claude Le Roy tutored Congo side.
In the 46th minute, Ajayi scored to give the Dream Team VI the curtain raiser.
The Shooting Stars striker was target again for the Nigerian team eight minutes later but the visiting team netted what turned out to be a consolation six minutes after the hour mark.
The second leg encounter comes up in a forthnight in Congo.
