Germany U20s Skipper Kevin Akpoguma Has Lowdown On Flying Eagles
Published: June 10, 2015Hoffenheim’s Kevin Akpoguma is relishing the prospect of facing the Flying Eagles on Thursday morning in the second round of the Fifa Under 20 World Cup.
The central defender, who is also eligible to don Nigeria’s colours, could be playing his last game for Germany at any level tomorrow as he has stated that he would decide his international future after the tournament in New Zealand.
Indeed, Akpoguma is well known to Nigeria Federation chiefs and they have mandated ex Nigeria Under 23 international Darlington Omodiagbe to convince the youngster to play for Nigeria in the nearest future.
“They rely on their attacking play and their one-on-one skills. They’re quick and have a insatiable urge to press forward, ” Kevin Akpoguma told fifa.com
“We’ve really got to watch our step as they’ve already shown that they score by putting two goals past Brazil.
“Nigeria are a great side, so now we can show what we’re really made of. We want to be in the last four and go all the way to Auckland.
“Having come here as European champions, that’s got to be our target.”
The Germany Under 20s skipper has started every single game contested by Germany in New Zealand, scoring once in the 3 - 0 thrashing of Uzbekistan.
