Published: May 31, 2015Hapoel Beer Sheva numero uno Austin Ejide has taken at swipe at the Nigerian media for wrongly reporting that he was released by his Israeli club, adding that sports writers should confirm information before going to press.
The main bone of contention is that some media outlets claimed that he has been sent parking by The Camels despite his contract expiring at the end of this season, that is June 30,2015.
As previously reported by this website, Hapoel Beer Sheva suits approached the Super Eagles shot - stopper late last year regarding the extension of his contract and he has kept them waiting due to gaps in his wage demands.
“I talk to very few Nigerian journalists but I keep reading stories about me on the internet which is wrong,” Austin Ejide told allnigeriasoccer.com from his base in Israel on Saturday.
“When these stories appear on the internet, no one knows which is wrong or correct, they believe everything that is written.
“I was not released by Hapoel Beer Sheva, my contract will expire at the end of the season. Journalists should verify their reports before they publish.”
Questioned about the six goals he conceded in the State Cup final against Maccabi Tel Aviv, Ejide replied : “Did they watch the match? I was not at fault for any of the goals.
“They are only being negative. I played more than nine games this season without conceding a goal.”
The 31 - year - old Austin Ejide began his career at Enugu Rangers before he was snapped up by Gabros, and he was recommended to the Super Eagles after a magical season with the Nnewi side.
For the past six years, the goalkeeper has been in Israel, first representing Hapoel Petah Tikva before crossing over to Hapoel Beer Sheva in 2012.
