Flying Eagles Beat Congo 4 - 1 To Qualify For Fifa Under 20 World Cup
Published: March 11, 2015Nigeria’s Under 20 National Team have secured their place at the 2015 Fifa Under 20 World Cup after humiliating Congo 4 - 1 in their second group game.
Manu Garba’s side were impressive and looked far more superior to the opponents despite playing a man short for more than an hour following the sending off of Joshua Enaholo for a rash tackle.
A brace from Musa Mohammed either side of the half, and goals from Ifeanyi Mathew and Taiwo Awoniyi were enough to give the Flying Eagles the three points they were in search of to book their plane tickets to New Zealand come this summer.
On five minutes, Ifeanyi Mathew netted his second goal of the tournament and skipper Mohammed would have doubled the advantage three minutes later, but was denied by goalkeeper Pavelh Ndzila from close range.
But the former Besiktas target made amends for his earlier miss by scoring from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute.
Ten minutes after the interval, Musa Mohammed celebrated his second goal of the game, keeping his composure to score from the penalty spot for a scoreline of 3 - 0 after the referee had blown for a foul on Taiwo Awoniyi again.
However, Silvere Ganvoula Mboussy gave the Congolese slight hope of a comeback after he reduced the tally in the 63rd minute.
Taiwo Awoniyi showed why he is being trailed by several European clubs at the AYC, scoring a screamer from the edge of the penalty box three minutes from time.
The Flying Eagles will face the Young Elephants in their last group match on Saturday at Mbour - Caroline Faye.
