Taiwo Awoniyi Not Chasing Personal Glory At AYC
Published: March 09, 2015Taiwo Awoniyi has played down talk he’s chasing the Top Scorer Award at the ongoing African Youth Championship, saying personal accolades should not come at the expense of the team.
The Kalmar trainee notched a brace in the Flying Eagles first game in Senegal, as well as the MOTM Award.
“Top scorer of the tournament? No, we are a team and we are here to win for Nigeria.
“We give glory to God and we will keep working hard to achieve our targets, ” the Imperial Academy graduate was quoted as saying by thenff.com.
The striker scored four goals at the 2013 Fifa Under 17 World Cup, stepping into the shoes of leading marksman Isaac Success, who got injured against Sweden.
