Moroccan Government Wants CAF To Postpone Afcon Due To Ebola Outbreak
Published: October 11, 2014The Moroccan government wants the African Cup of Nations billed to be staged in the North African Country from January 17 - February 8, 2015 to be shifted to a later date.
The authorities have written to Confederation of African Football ( CAF) to postpone the tourney, citing the outbreak of Ebola in a number of African countries, notably Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Guinea.
The organizers have pointed out that it is necessary to avoid crowds as spectators might be potentially infected with the virus.
CAF President Issa Hayatou will hold talks with a delegation from Morocco next week to examine the likelihood of delaying the start of the competition.
At least 4,000 people have died of Ebola since the current outbreak, including eight from Nigeria.
