Finalists Emerge In Lions DG U-13 Football Tourney

The maiden Lions Club District Governor U-13 Football Championship which kicked off, at the Agege Stadium, Lagos last week has produced quarter-finalists after first round play-off played at four designated centers.
The District Governor, Lion. Yinka Bolarinwa, who initiated the tourney said during the unveiling event, held at Lagos that the development is a way of the Lions Club’ supports to the development grassroots football in Nigeria.
The Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Referees Association (NRA), Sarah Jumoke Adebisi who is also a member of organising committee for the tourney, said part of the motives behind the championship is to help the NFF to discover authentic raw talents from the grassroots with right ages.
“Lions Club stands for is services to humanity and to create an enabling environment for youths within the district to engage in exercise that would help them keep fit, stay healthy and empower them economically.
“And that was why we initiated this to support the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF) in discovering raw talents that will be foundational member of our age group National teams and the Super Eagles,”said Adebisi, a retired FIFA referee.
Meanwhile, region 10 & 11 have qualified for quarter-finals from Oluyemi Kayode stadium center, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State while region 9 and 7 also qualified from Ebenezer Obey Camp, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Region 2 and 3 also qualified from Legacy Pitch,Surulere, Lagos State while Agege Stadium center is yet to produced qualifiers due to postponement of matches to 7th December.
All quarter finals are to be played in Ibadan on 31st January 2014 according to Adebisi, while the Semi finals and finals will be played in Ilorin during the Mini-Convention of District 404b In February 2014.
