My Goals Will Come - Onyemah
Published: October 01, 2013
Former FC Porto of Portugal youth team player, Philip Chidi Onyemah (Phenomenon) has parried any talk of agony on his part, following his inability to score a goal for his new club, Ethnikos Achnas of Cyprus, which he joined this summer.
The Delta State-born attacker is back in Cyprus, where he played for relegated Olympiakos Nicosia, before embarking on a spell in Greece at the start of the year, only to leave when things did not work out as planned.
However, now back in familiar hunting ground, Onyemah is yet to find scoring range after three matches with Achnas, but insists there is no cause for alarm. Onyemah was on for 90 minutes in last weekend’s fixture, as Achnas played 1-1 away to Aris Limassol, but again failed to hit the net, but he is taking positives from the fact that the result took his team up to 11th place on the 14-team top-flight table.
The youngster (born February 20, 1984 at Maroko, Lagos) has also played for three other Portuguese teams - Fornos de Algodres, Famalicão and Rio Ave – but is now hoping to create the biggest marks of his career at his present base.
“I am happy with how things are going for me at the moment,” said the soft-spoken protégé of former Super Eagles star, Emmanuel Amuneke.
“Although I am yet to score, I know my time will come, because I am currently playing behind the top striker. This should put me in goals scoring positions in any match I play, and I believe it is just a matter of time before I score.
“My team did not start the season really well, but we have been able to pick up eventually and last weekend’s 1-1 draw away has helped us up the table to an extent. My hope is that we will continue to improve, especially as we are playing at home this weekend.”
