NSC Clears Bushy Awolowo Stadium

Luck has smiled on the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium Ibadan as contractor engaged by National Sports Commission (NSC) on Thursday morning commenced clearance of the bushy environment of former Liberty Stadium.
The development which was greeted with jubilation by sportsmen and women who train in various sports everyday and other occupants who on various occasions have been confronted by many dangerous animals inhabited in the forest within the stadium.
The environmental cleanliness according to the zonal coordinator of NSC zone 1 that has its office situated at the stadium, Dr.
Steve Olarinoye said was facilitated by the Director General of NSC, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye in fulfillment of the promise made when he make his first facilities inspection visit to the arena few month ago.
Olarinoye also hinted that beautiful landscaping would be done on the areas occupied with bushes immediately it is cleared while the
commission would subsequently decide on what to be done on the large expanse land that is fallow.
A youth football coach who crafted for anonymity told the reporter that they have on many occasion killed cobra snakes, alligators and
antelopes in the bushy stadium environment, thanking the new DG for rescuing them from fear of being attacked by dangerous reptiles dwelling with them in the stadium.
