Taribo West Wants Yobo Back In Super Eagles Team
Published: July 11, 2013Retired Nigeria international Taribo West has pleaded with coach Stephen Keshi to consider his substantive skipper Joseph Yobo for selection when the Eagles host the Flames of Malawi in September.
Since the conclusion of the African Cup of Nations, the experienced defender has been omitted from the rosters announced by Keshi, who prefers youngsters Godfrey Oboabona and Kenneth Omeruo to man the central defense.
But Taribo, an iconic defender in his playing days, has declared that Keshi can not throw experience out of the window.
''None of those defenders has the experience of Yobo. I don’t understand why Keshi left him out and included players that have yet to experience top football.
''Nigeria’s defense was embarrassing against Spain and Uruguay at the Confederations Cup. It was clear there was no coordination among the players.
''It wasn’t that they couldn’t match up with both teams, they just had no way of stopping them each time they broke through the midfield,'' says Taribo West to punchng.com.
Joseph Yobo , 32 , has missed the last seven matches played by the Super Eagles.
In his absence, Nigeria won 2 matches, drew 3 and lost 2 Confederations Cup games against Spain and Uruguay.
