Raheem Lawal Delighted With One Point
Published: March 12, 2013Raheem Lawal has never played for teams battling with relegation. The Nigeria international joined Mersin ä°dmanyurdu in the January transfer window after failing to agree personal terms with Istanbul BB.
Against Kasimpasa on Monday night, the 22 - year - old central midfielder made his first start for The Red Devils.
Lawal is delighted with the outcome of the game, which ended 1 - 1. It was Mersin's first point in the Super League since February 3rd.
''We were playing against one of the best teams in the league. I am happy and relieved that we could take a point from the game because it was a difficult match. It is better to take one point than leave the field with nothing.
''The management of the club is doing everything possible for the club not to go down. They promised cash incentives and a car to each player if we can stay afloat,'' says Lawal to allnigeriasoccer.com.
After Monday's tie at Tevfik Sırrı Gür Stadium, Lawal had a chat with National Team colleague Kalu Uche, whose strike had given Kasimpasa the lead before Mert Nobre restored parity for Mersin with a quarter of an hour left.
''Kalu advised me to give my best to the benefit of the team, and to avoid losing concentration,'' said Lawal.
