The apex body of Women Football in the country, Nigeria Women League Board (NWLB) has dissociated it self from the
meeting called by some section, held in Benin City, Edo State, saying the purported meeting is illegal and it’s in no connection with the leadership of the league board.
This was stated in a release issued by the Board and signed by the Chairperson of NWLB Dili Onyedinma and her vice, Debo
Adeoye where they made it in clear terms that the leadership of NWLB had met with important stakeholders in Women Football which included Club Chairmen, Coaches and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to fashion a way forward for the game.
Quoting the Chairperson from the release ''In accordance with 2010 NFF statutes that is in use now, it is only the Board Chairman that has the right to call for any meeting of such, and for such a meeting to be legal, a 14 days notice would have to be given to the stakeholders.
''I want to say that we have not called for such a meeting, and there is no other legal body that has the right to call for such a meeting without the consent of the Chairman who will also preside over it.
"We want to assure all our stakeholders that efforts are been made to reposition Nigeria Women football. The Board of the League body is on top of the present situation of lack of funds, and the NFF President Aminu Maigari has promised to release funds for the Board to carry out its activities.''
She maintained that present situation of the women league in country is not peculiar to them alone, as others leagues are also affected.
The board however, called on the warring section to eschew bickering and peace for the interest of the game, ''all this
rebellion can not take us to anywhere, although, the board would not be distracted by whatever scheming the dissidents might be perpetrating. The league board is remained focused.
