Exclusive - Done Deal: Academica Steal JOHN OGU From Under Sporting Braga,OB Odense Noses
Published: June 15, 2012
This is not official yet. According to leaks gathered by allnigeriasoccer.com, Nigerian midfielder John Ugochukwu Ogu signed a two-year deal with Portuguese Premier Division outfit Académica on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old spent last season at demoted U.D Leiria. Now, Academica must await the decision of the Arbitration Committee of the Portuguese League before unveiling the former Almeria man. The Committee will decide if Ogu can terminate his contract with U.D Leiria over unpaid wages.
Academica snatched Ogu from under the noses of rivals Sporting Braga and Danish club OB Odense. The Danish side which once paraded Super Eagle Peter Utaka had offered Ogu more wages, but could not guarantee him first team football.
On the other hand, Braga were dragging their feet. Then, Pedro Emanuel, Académica's gaffer, came calling. He has offered the highly rated Nigerian midfielder first team football next season.
Ogu was quite a sensation last season for U.D Leiria. In his first four games in the championship, he netted three goals, even when he was used in unfamiliar roles in midfield and attack.
