'Osimhen means half of Galatasaray' – Former referee says Super Eagles star hates being substituted
Published: April 24, 2025
Former Turkish referee Ahmet Cakar has lavished praise on Victor Osimhen, describing the Nigerian striker as the driving force behind Galatasaray's current domestic dominance.
With six league matches remaining in the season, Galatasaray top the table with 77 points—five more than José Mourinho's Fenerbahce, and have also advanced to the Turkish Cup final.
By scoring in his most recent outing against Konyaspor, Osimhen is now just one goal shy of equaling his personal best for goals in a single season—the 31 he scored for Napoli during the 2022–2023 campaign.
Çakar highlighted Osimhen's mentality and aerial prowess, noting that the striker gets visibly upset whenever he’s substituted.
"Galatasaray has saddened one third of Türkiye. Osimhen means half of Galatasaray. Galatasaray has half the power that no other team has," Ahmet Cakar said on the BTV YouTube channel, via habersarikirmizi.com.
"Osimhen gets angry even when he is coming off the game. 'Why did you take me off?' he says. He scores goals, he makes them score. He has an incredible command of the air."
Cakar believes Osimhen could lead Galatasaray to the Turkish Super Lig title but questioned whether the club could keep hold of him beyond the season.
"The problem is; Osimhen will make Galatasaray champions, but I don't know if he'll stay.
"He might go to England or Spain next year, and he’s the type of player who can destroy teams there."
He concluded by calling Osimhen a complete forward: "He is very athletic, good with his head, has great kicking technique, is fast, likeable, and above all, human."
Osimhen is expected to return to Napoli at the end of the season, with the Italian club planning to offload him early in the summer transfer window to avoid a repeat of last year when he ended up at Galatasaray after failed moves to Chelsea and Al-Ahli.
