The English Football Association has called up four players of Nigerian descent to the Young Lions squad for the upcoming Montaigu Tournament.

The Montaigu Tournament is an international association football competition that is contested by under-16 national teams and clubs.

Daniel Adediran (Aston Villa), Malik Olayiwola (Everton), Riley Ebho (West Ham United) and Sam Alabi (Newcastle United) are all in contention to earn caps for England U16s, having been included in the squad list, England Youth has informed through a social media post.

The Young Lions begin their campaign at the Montaigu Tournament against Japan on April 15, and then face Mexico two days, before a meeting with Portugal on April 19.

Some famous international footballers have played in the Montaigu Tournament, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe and Morgan Rogers.

Marcel Desailly, Didier Deschamps, and Thierry Henry—all World Cup champions—along with 2022 Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema, are among the notable alumni of the Montaigu Tournament.

Alabi's fifteen appearances in the U18 Premier League this season, along with a debut in the FA Youth Cup while still a schoolboy, reflect the strong faith Newcastle's youth coaches have in his potential.

Malik Olayiwola and Riley Ebho have also made appearances for Everton and West Ham respectively in the U18 Premier League.
