Istanbul derby: Galatasaray insider provides update on Osimhen after injury on Super Eagles duty
Published: March 27, 2025
Galatasaray insider Yakup Çınar has provided an update on the potential availability of Victor Osimhen for selection ahead of the highly anticipated Istanbul derby against Besiktas on Saturday evening.
Osimhen, who has been in stellar form since his loan move from Napoli last summer, became a major doubt for the crucial clash after sustaining an injury while on international duty with Nigeria.
The 26-year-old striker opened the scoring for Nigeria against Zimbabwe but had to be replaced by Victor Boniface three minutes before full-time due to discomfort.
Providing the latest update on Osimhen's condition, Yakup Çınar revealed that both the Nigerian striker and Davinson Sanchez are expected to be available for selection.
However, he emphasized that the final decision will rest with the club's medical staff.
"I have received information that Osimhen and Davinson Sanchez are fit to play in the Beşiktaş-Galatasaray derby," Çınar said in an interview with Radio Gol, as reported by habersarikirmizi.
"However, the final decision will be made by the medical board. Yunus Akgün is also ready to play in the derby,"
Osimhen's availability would be a significant boost for Galatasaray, given his immense impact since joining the club.
The Nigerian forward has been a key figure for the Yellow-Reds, contributing to 31 goals in 30 matches across all competitions, scoring 26 times and providing five assists.
With Galatasaray aiming to maintain their unbeaten record and tighten their grip on the Super Lig title amidst pressure from Fenerbahçe, Osimhen's presence could prove vital in securing a crucial victory in the Istanbul derby.
