'Strong player' - Cyriel Dessers speaks about the prospect of teammate departing Rangers
Published: March 27, 2025
Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers has admitted that teammate Nicolas Raskin could leave Ibrox in the future if he continues his impressive development.
The 24-year-old Belgian midfielder has been in fine form this season, recently making his senior debut for Belgium and catching the attention of top clubs.
Scouts from Premier League sides have monitored him, fueling speculation over a potential summer transfer.
While Dessers does not want Raskin to leave, he understands why clubs are interested in the talented midfielder.
Speaking to Sporza, the Nigerian striker praised his teammate's abilities, saying, "Of course I see him at work every day and he is a strong player in a team full of internationals. So I know he can handle that level."
The Nigerian forward also acknowledged that playing for Belgium’s national team has increased Raskin’s exposure to European clubs.
"He is doing really well and with this match at the Red Devils there will be interest from other teams. I sometimes have those conversations with him, also because I am older."
Dessers believes Raskin is capable of playing in a higher-tier European league, including Italy’s Serie A.
""I think he can go very far. In the Serie A I saw players in the 6 who are no better than Nico, so he can go to the sub-top in a top competition.
"But it is important to take the right step to a competition and a team that suit his style."
However, Dessers emphasized that Rangers still need Raskin before any move materializes.
"If he continues to evolve like this, it will happen automatically. But we need him for the time being before he takes that big step," he concluded.
