Dessers scores twice after the break to inspire Rangers to comeback win against Kilmarnock

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers delivered a match-winning performance, scoring a brace as Rangers staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 4-2 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Wednesday night.

Rangers found themselves trailing by two goals early in the match, but under new manager Darren Ferguson, the team responded emphatically to mark his tenure with a thrilling win.

Jacob Wright opened the scoring for the hosts, and Brad Lyons doubled Kilmarnock’s lead in the 14th minute. However, Václav Černý pulled one back for Rangers before halftime, setting the stage for a dramatic second half.

Dessers, who has been in fine form this season, drew Rangers level in the 53rd minute, smashing home after an assist from captain James Tavernier.

The Nigerian forward then completed the comeback two minutes after the hour mark, finishing off a pass from Ridvan Yılmaz to give Rangers the lead.

However, Nedim Bajrami scored a late fourth goal to seal the victory and put the match beyond Kilmarnock's reach.

Ferguson, who has previously expressed admiration for Dessers' abilities, started him alongside Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane, and the decision paid off.

The Nigerian international has now scored 20 goals and provided six assists in 41 matches across all competitions for Rangers this season.

With his impressive form, Dessers will be hoping to earn a place in Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
