'It's very difficult to turn down' - Ex-Liverpool star explains why Boniface will accept Al Nassr offer
Published: January 29, 2025Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol has weighed in on why Nigerian forward Victor Boniface may accept a lucrative move to Al Nassr in the ongoing winter transfer window.
The Saudi Arabian club is reportedly in advanced negotiations with both Boniface's representatives and Bayer Leverkusen, hoping to finalize the deal ahead of the February 3 deadline.
Boniface, who joined Leverkusen from Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer of 2023, has been in scintillating form, netting 29 goals in 49 matches across all competitions.
At just 24 years old, the prospect of a move to Saudi Arabia has come as a surprise to many, given his impressive rise in the Bundesliga.
However, Nicol, speaking on ESPN, explained that the potential offer is likely too tempting for Boniface to turn down.
He noted the player's history with injuries and the uncertainty of future offers, making this opportunity one that might never come again.
"It is definitely an individual decision," Nicol said. "But when the amount of money is put in front of you, it is very difficult to turn it down. I will suggest that Boniface has had his share of injuries already and he's only 24.
"And apart from the money maybe he's thinking, I maybe cannot turn this down because I might never get the opportunity again or get anywhere close it to."
With the transfer window rapidly closing, Boniface's decision could make a major impact on both his career and the Saudi Pro League.
