Arsenal-reared striker Akpom attracting interest from PL clubs, including Leicester City
Published: January 29, 2025Arsenal's Hale End Academy product Chuba Akpom is being linked with a departure from Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam in the winter transfer market.
Sky Sports UK, making reference to The Mirror, is reporting that the former Arsenal striker could be set to seal a return to England, with Premier League clubs interested in the Ajax Amsterdam number 10.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf added that Akpom is attracting interest from Leicester City and French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille.
Akpom was courted by a plethora of English and foreign clubs after winning the Championship Golden Boot in 2022-2023 but ended up signing for four-time European champions Ajax for a fee of 12.3 million euros, a fee that could increase to 14.3m euros due to performance-related bonuses.
Ajax are keen to remove the Super Eagles player from their wage bill and are willing to listen to offers for the former England youth international.
Sunderland were interested in signing Akpom on loan but the forward was not interested in joining the Championship promotion hopefuls
De Telegraaf has highlighted that the interest from Leicester and Marseille is concrete.
Ajax would rather see Akpom leave the club instead of Netherlands international Brian Brobbey, who is on West Ham United's wishlist.
The Nigerian has been unable to secure a starting place since joining the Amsterdam club, and has played in 67 matches in which he scored 23 times and provided four assists.
Akpom attracted concrete interest from Premier League duo Nottingham Forest and Fulham last January but Ajax blocked a potential return to England.
