Racing Genk coach shares what he told Tolu Arokodare ahead of summer transfer window
Published: January 05, 2025
Manager Thorsten Fink has shared what he told Nigerian striker, Tolu Arokodare, about a potential departure from Racing Genk in the summer transfer window of 2025.
The 24-year-old has scored 13 goals, topping the scorer's chart, and has been linked with moves to top clubs.
Arokodare's transformation has been remarkable, considering he faced criticism from fans in the past for not meeting expectations.
Arokodare's current form has not gone unnoticed, and he has become a vital player for Genk.
His ability to put pressure on the defense and retain possession of the ball has made him a standout player.
Genk's reliance on transfer income has cast doubt on Arokodare's future at the club, but coach Fink has suggested that the Nigerian striker will have the freedom to decide his next move.
Genk has a history of selling players in the winter transfer window, with Paul Onuachu, Daniel Muñoz, and Joseph Paintsil being recent examples.
However, Fink's comments suggest that Arokodare's situation may be different. The coach's praise for Arokodare's abilities and work ethic indicates that he values the striker highly.
"He has the profile of a top striker," Fink said in an interview with DAZN as quoted by Voetbalkrant.
"You rarely have a striker who is fast, who is 1m97 tall, with the qualities of a finisher, he can keep up with the ball, a good kick with his left and right.
"I believed in that. And if you work for the team and you have data, intensity, running meters, also your defensive work, then you will also score goals. If someone else makes a mistake, help him. I am there to explain those things to him. That is the role of a leader."
Fink added: "Now I've told him: Boy, five more months of full throttle. And I think he'll be able to choose the clubs. If he even wants to leave."
The towering hitman, who is still hopeful for a national team call-up, has managed eighty-five appearances since his arrival, registering thirty-one goals and eleven assists.
