'Initially they wanted to buy me' - Ola Aina reveals how his move to Nottingham Forest came about

Versatile defender Ola Aina has discussed how his move to Nottingham Forest came about, revealing that the two-time European champions attempted to sign him on more than one occasion before he ran out of contract at Italian Serie A club Torino.

Nottingham Forest pulled off a massive transfer coup by luring Ola Aina to the City Ground, beating Londoners Crystal Palace and West Ham United to his signature.

The Reds eventually got their man in the summer of 2023, signing him on a one-year deal, with a club option for the 2024-2025 season.

Predominantly a right-back for club and country, Aina has made quite an impression since landing at Nottingham Forest, showcasing his versatility in the fullback positions and wing-back.

Nottingham Forest are keen to get him under a new four-year contract following his brilliant displays week in, week out.

One of the first names on the team sheet under different managers, the Chelsea academy graduate has appeared in 31 matches across all competitions as a Nottingham Forest player, with a goal and an assist to his name.

In an interview with Counter Attack Podcast whilst on international duty with the Super Eagles, Aina stated: "I was coming into my last year at Torino and initially they wanted to buy me. This was Forest's first season in the Premier League but Torino said no, whatever.

"And then I started the season and they came again in January wanting to buy me, then I finished the season with Torino and Forest was like we'll grab him for free. That's how it happened."

Nottingham Forest is Aina's fourth club in England since turning professional, having previously worn the colours of Chelsea, Hull City and Fulham.
