'I couldn’t believe' - Galatasaray icon admits surprise over Osimhen's transfer to Turkish champions
Published: October 15, 2024Legendary Galatasaray midfielder Dževad Prekazi has expressed his surprise at Victor Osimhen's decision to join the Turkish champions.
The Super Eagles star forward had set his sights on moving to the Premier League or a return to the Ligue 1 after making up his mind to leave Napoli.
However, the Parthenopeans placed a huge valuation on him, making it difficult for Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain to secure his services, and the Italian club also frustrated Al-Ahli's attempt to sign him.
With the window closed in the top five leagues and being frozen out of the first team, Galatasaray were presented with the opportunity to move for him.
The Lions eventually grabbed the signature of the 25-year-old on loan in a move that came as a surprise to many, including Prekazi.
During his interview with TRT Spor via Cumhuriyet, Prekazi expressed his surprise at Osimhen's decision to join Galatasaray and stated that the lanky forward would be a good signing.
“I couldn't believe Osimhen, I couldn't believe he would come to Galatasaray and that he did. He wanted to go to England, the problem was in Napoli because the transfer was a lot of money,” he said.
"I don't know how he came to Galatasaray. It's great, he will make a great contribution, it's obvious. Nobody can keep him"
The reigning African Men's Player of the Year has begun the season with immaculate form, notching at least one goal involvement per game for the Lions with six-goal contributions in four games.
He is currently recovering from a muscle injury, which has kept him out for the past two games and made him miss the Super Eagles 2025 Africa Cup of Nations game with Libya last Friday.
