After brace against Kasimpasa, Osimhen achieves a feat unmatched by any Galatasaray player in seven years
Published: September 28, 2024Victor Osimhen opened his goalscoring account for Galatasaray during the thrilling 3-3 draw with Kasımpaşa on matchday seven of the Süper Lig at RAMS Park on Saturday evening.
The Super Eagles forward scored the opener in the 20th minute, meeting a perfect cross from Abdulkerim Bardakci and heading it past Andreas Gianniotis.
Eight minutes later, the Napoli loanee was on the scoresheet once again, thundering a powerful shot home from Gabriel Sara's brilliant pass.
With his brace, the reigning African Footballer of the Year became the first Galatasaray player to register four or more goal contributions in his first three games in the Super Lig since Bafetimbi Gomis in 2017, according to the statisticians at OPTA.
Mauro Icardi bagged the Lion's third as he outmuscled his marker and was able to produce a brilliant volley to put the ball beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.
Kasımpaşa pulled one back a minute before half-time through Mamadou Fall, and then Haris Hajradinovic reduced the deficit to one in the 83rd minute, before Nuno Da Costa completed the comeback in stoppage time.
Just before halftime, Osimhen signaled for a substitution due to a suspected injury and was replaced by Dries Mertens at the beginning of the second half.
Osimhen has scored two goals and registered three assists for Galatasaray and Okan Buruk will be hoping the Nigerian striker is fit for the upcoming games.
Super Eagles veteran centre-back Kenneth Omeruo entered the game as a substitute in the 30th minute, replacing
Mortadha Ben Ouanes to make his fifth appearance of the campaign.
