Osayi-Samuel helps Fenerbahce record first clean sheet under marquee coach Jose Mourinho
Published: August 10, 2024Bright Osayi-Samuel played a part as Fenerbahce recorded their first clean sheet under famous Portuguese football tactician Jose Mourinho, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Mourinho is known as a coach who wants to win every game which sometimes involves using negative tactics like parking the bus - a phrase popularized during his tenure at Chelsea in the Premier League.
However, the Yellow Canaries' defensive frailty was a cause for concern before Adana Demirspor visited the Ülker Stadyumu FB Şükrü Saraçoğlu Spor Kompleksi, with six goals conceded in their first three competitive games of the new season.
Today's game was special for Mourinho as Fenerbahce managed to post a shutout for the first time since he took over the managerial reigns at the Istanbul club.
Thirty four minutes into the contest, Edin Dzeko scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with a first time finish after a lovely pass from Allan Saint-Maximin.
After he was a non-playing substitute in the Champions League clash versus Lille, Osayi-Samuel was reinstated into the starting lineup and lasted 76 minutes on the pitch before making way for Mert Müldür.
The Super Eagles right-back registered one tackle, one interception and one clearance while on the field.
Fenerbahce will take on Lille in the return leg of their Champions League third qualifying round on Tuesday and return to league action next weekend when they face Göztepe.
