Chelsea handed boost in pursuit of 2024 Olympic Games star of Nigerian descent

Chelsea have been handed a boost in their pursuit of talented Spanish-Nigerian striker Samuel Omorodion.

Omorodion has played in three matches at the 2024 Olympic Games and was on target for his country of birth Spain in their 2-1 loss to Egypt.

According to Football.London, the Blues' desire to sign the Spain youth international may have been boosted with Atletico Madrid's signing of Alexander Sørloth.

The Spanish side have confirmed the capture of the Norwegian forward who came close to winning the Spanish top scorer award last season.

Sorloth scored 23 goals for Villarreal last term, one fewer than the Arthem Dovbyk who won the Pichichi Trophy, awarded to the top scorer in La Liga.

His arrival according to the report from England may change Atletico Madrid's stance on selling Omorodion who is highly rated by Chelsea.

The Blues had initially submitted a bid to the Spanish giants which was turned down by the club who are insisting that the young forward is not for sale this summer.

The arrival of Sørloth could affect the game time of the 20-year-old who could as well be open to leaving Atletico Madrid if playing time isn't guaranteed.

A move for the former Granada striker may be more feasible for Chelsea than Victor Osimhen as it stands due to the cost implications of getting the latter.

Omorodion won't cost as much as the Napoli star and will not demand a salary as huge as that of the reigning African Footballer the Year.
