Saudi Arabia or Premier League? Crystal Palace-linked midfielder Onyedika reveals his preferred destination
Published: July 29, 2024Raphael Onyedika is open to a move to the Premier League amid reports linking him to clubs in both England and Saudi Arabia.
The Super Eagles midfielder has been linked with a possible move to Crystal Palace, with top spy Dougie Freedman watching the Nigeria international in action for his Belgian side Club Brugge back in April.
Onyedika joined Club Brugge from Midtjylland in the summer of 2022 and has since become a key player, featuring in 91 games and scoring four goals.
His stellar performances helped propel Club Brugge to win the Belgian Pro League in the 2023–24 season, after missing out on the title in his debut campaign.
Speaking on the transfer rumors, Onyedika described the speculation as flattering but emphasized his focus on personal development and leaving negotiations to his agent.
"It's really flattering when you see these names, this caliber of clubs interested in your services. But I'm just focused on playing my game, and not necessarily who talks to who.
"A lot of this is not up to me, you know. My agent will have to look at everything, and ultimately decide what's best for all parties," Onyedika told SportsBoom, via VoetbalNieuws.
Onyedika also reaffirmed his commitment to Club Brugge, where he is under contract until 2027.
"I'm under contract until 2027. I have a contract here and I intend to respect it. The Club Brugge project is great, one that makes every footballer happy.
"We have a solid culture, a tradition in which every talented player gets the chance to grow and express themselves when you put on the shirt."
However, Onyedika ruled out a move to Saudi Arabia, stating, "I'm not sure the Middle East is the best place for my development at the moment."
The English Premier League, on the other hand, is a concrete option for him.
"These are places that you can't say no to as a footballer. If they call and everything is right, of course."
Despite a reported 20 million euro offer from a Saudi club, the midfielder is focused on opportunities that align better with his career progression.
