AC Milan planning to trigger N65b release clause for Bologna striker Zirkzee
Published: June 06, 2024AC Milan have stepped up their effort to grasp the signature of the Nigerian striker Joshua Zirkzee, who has been linked with Arsenal.
According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the seven-time European champions have informed Bologna that they are ready to trigger the €40m (N65b in Nigerian currency) release clause of the talented striker.
The report also added that talks are ongoing between the 22-year-old representatives and the Serie A giants about personal terms with the player keen on staying in Italy rather than moving abroad.
AC Milan are trying to fill the void left by Olivier Giroud, who is set to join Major League Soccer side Los Angeles Football Club next month, after spending three seasons at the San Siro.
The Rossoneri have identified Zirkzee as a replacement for the France international owing to his impressive form for Bologna last term, having scored 11 goals to help the Red and Blues secure a UEFA Champions League spot for next season.
As a result of his performance during the course of the season, he was awarded the Serie A Best Young Player award, an accolade which was also won by Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in the 2021-2022 season.
He made 37 appearances across all competitions for Bologna last term and registered 19 goal involvements.
