West Ham United offer new deals to Fawunmi and Akpata
Published: June 05, 2024The official website of the Premier League has confirmed the list of players retained and released by West Ham United.
At academy level, striker Joshua Ajala, left-back Chukwuemeka Adiele and central defender Rayan Oyebade have been retained by the Hammers for the 2024-2025 season.
Signed from Chelsea last summer, Ajala featured regularly for West Ham U18s in the recently concluded season, scoring 17 goals in 23 appearances in the U18 Premier League.
The free-scoring striker also made his debuts in the Premier League 2, FA Youth Cup and EFL Trophy.
Ajala signed his first professional contract last November, while Adiele and Oyebade will enter the second year of their scholarship with West Ham next season.
The total number of Nigerian players retained could rise to five as West Ham have confirmed that they have offered new deals to left-footed attacker Favour Fawunmi and central midfielder Tyron Akpata.
Fawunmi and Akpata joined the Hammers at U15 level and signed scholarship terms with the club in June 2022.
Akpata has been described as a central midfielder who brings energy and commitment to his role, while Fawunmi has shown pace, trickery and skill on the wing.
Fawunmi is credited with 12 goals in 33 outings in the U18 Premier League, while Akpata has four goals in 39 matches in the division.
