Trabzonspor consider Sheffield United striker as alternative to Paul Onuachu
Published: June 03, 2024Super Lig club Trabzonspor are working on a deal to sign Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie, according to Turkish daily newspaper Milliyet.
Trabzonspor have shifted their attention to the Scotland international as a backup plan in case they cannot afford their primary target, Paul Onuachu.
Southampton are reportedly demanding 15 million euros for the Super Eagles striker, while Trabzonspor have made an offer of 12 million euros, three million euros less than his asking price.
Onuachu made a splash in the recently concluded season, scoring 17 goals in 25 all-competition appearances while producing four assists in a successful loan spell at Trabzonspor.
Trabzonspor have identified McBurnie as a cheaper alternative, with his contract with the Blades set to run out on June 30, 2024, and the fact that he would arrive as a free agent was considered an advantage.
If the proposed transfer of Onuachu to the Black Sea Storm proves to be too expensive for them, they will turn their attention to McBurnie.
The FC Ebedei product joined Trabzonspor from Racing Genk in exchange for €18m but struggled to replicate his magnificent displays for the Belgian Pro League side in the second half of the 2022-2023 campaign.
Onuachu has been named in the Nigeria squad for their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
