Udogie ruled out of Euro 2024: Napoli loanee Folorunsho sends message to injured Tottenham star
Published: April 21, 2024Through a statement on their official website, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur confirmed on Sunday morning that cap-tied Italy international of Nigerian descent, Destiny Udogie has undergone surgery to his left quadriceps, having sustained an injury in training.
The left-back will miss the 2024 European Championship and is expected to rejoin the Tottenham squad during pre-season preparations.
In his first season at Tottenham after spending the whole of the last campaign on loan at Udinese, Udogie established himself as a key player for the Lilywhites, registering five goal involvements in 28 outings in the Premier League.
Before Tottenham's update, Udogie took to Instagram to announce that an injury has brought his season to a premature end.
His injury is a big blow to Ange Postecoglou who is aiming to finish the season in fourth place and qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
The north London club trail fourth-placed Aston Villa by three points and also have a game in hand.
Udogie was set to be named in Italy's final squad for this summer's European Championship, taking into account his impressive performances this season.
Upon the announcement of his injury, the left-back has received messages of support from several footballers, including Napoli loanee Michael Folorunsho.
Folorunsho and Udogie trained with Italy's squad last month ahead of friendlies against Venezuela and Ecuador but the Nigeria-eligible central midfielder could not make his debut due to fitness concerns.
The Hellas Verona star, using emojis, urged Udogie to be strong and expressed his love for the defender.
