'Simply phenomenal' - Nigeria legend Sunday Oliseh names the best coach in the world
Published: April 19, 2024Nigeria legend Sunday Oliseh has named former Arsenal boss Unai Emery as the best coach in the world after guiding Aston Villa to the semifinal of a European competition for the first time since 1982.
Courtesy of a penalty shootout victory over Lille at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy yesterday, Aston Villa advanced to the last four of the UEFA Europa Conference League where they will face Olympiakos.
The result also meant that Aston Villa remain the only English team left in a European competition with Arsenal and Manchester City getting knocked out of the Champions League while Liverpool and West Ham have been kicked out of the Europa League.
This has led to praises coming the way of Emery who took charge at the Villa Park in October 2022 after Steven Gerrard was shown the way out after a string of bad results.
Reacting to a post on X eulogizing the heroics of the Spanish tactician with Aston Villa, Oliseh declared him as the best coach in the world.
"Arguably the best coach in the world! Una Emery is simply phenomenal".
Emery is also on the verge of leading Aston Villa to their first ever appearance in the UEFA Champions League as they sit 4th in the Premier League standings at the moment.
