Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo provides injury update on Awoniyi pre-Everton
Published: April 19, 2024Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo faced the cameras on Friday before his side's crucial Premier League clash with Everton at Goodison Park.
The Portuguese football tactician provided a fitness update on Taiwo Awoniyi, saying that the Nigeria international has not yet resumed full training with the rest of his teammates before the trip to Everton.
Awoniyi has not been called up for the last five games played by the Reds in the Premier League due to a thigh injury he sustained leading up to the Luton Town game.
This injury forced him to withdraw from the Nigeria squad for back-to-back internationals against Ghana and Mali last month.
Nuno Espirito Santo revealed that Awoniyi has been involved in some parts of team training but he refrained from specifying a timeline regarding the striker's potential comeback.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers boss disclosed that the likelihood of Anthony Elanga featuring against the Toffees is touch-and-go, and confirmed that 2023 Africa Cup of Nations winner Willy Boly remains sidelined.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Nuno Espirito Santo said: "Taiwo didn't join the group yet. He is still partially integrated into the group.
"Anthony in the middle of the week was been able to do some things with us. We are managing him until tomorrow and then will assess him regarding the game.
"We have just same players out. Boly is out but we are recovering, Taiwo is coming back, so issues, but let's see."
Nottingham Forest are in 17th place on 26 points, just one point ahead of the relegation places, with five matches remaining in the Premier League.
