First Premier League call-up for Flying Eagles-eligible winger as Chelsea thrash Everton
Published: April 15, 2024Flying Eagles-eligible winger Tyrique George was named in Chelsea's matchday squad for the first time in his career as Mauricio Pochettino's side brushed away Everton 6-0 in a Premier League game played at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
Cole Palmer opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a first-time finish after making a brilliant run into the box and combining with Nicolas Jackson.
Five minutes later, the England international doubled the lead, nodding the ball home after Jordan Pickford had saved Jackson's initial shot.
The Manchester City Academy product gave the Blues a three-goal cushion in the 29th minute, chipping the ball over Pickford whose pass he had initially intercepted just outside the centre circle.
A minute before the stroke of halftime, Jackson finally got himself on the score sheet, converting Marc Cucurella's cross into the back of the net.
Palmer was on the scoreboard yet again in the 64th minute, placing the ball into the top corner from the penalty spot after a foul was spotted by the referee.
Substitute Alfie Gilchrist cored the last goal of the night after Ben Chilwell's shot had ricocheted off the goalkeeper.
George has been in scintillating form this season, scoring nineteen goals in all competitions for Chelsea youth teams, comprising eight in the U18 Premier League, eight in cup competitions and three in the Premier League 2.
Known for scoring spectacular goals, he has been nominated for Chelsea's Goal of the Month five times this season.
With several senior players missing for the Blues, Pochettino had to hand the 18-year-old his first senior team involvement.
