Kgatlana pocketed and four other observations from Super Falcons goalless draw against Banyana Banyana

Nigeria secured their spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics after a 0-0 draw with South Africa in Pretoria on Tuesday evening. 

The Super Falcons had previously won the first leg 1-0 courtesy of a penalty converted by Rasheedat Ajibade in the first half.

Nigeria put up a solid defensive performance, securing their first Olympic qualification in sixteen years.

1, Waldrum Opts for Defensive Tactics 

Super Falcons coach, Randy Waldrum opted for a conservative approach against Bayana Bayana in Pretoria. 

Unlike in the first leg, Nigeria ceded possession to South Africa but effectively closed down spaces and time in their defensive third. 

This tactical choice paid off as the Super Falcons successfully prevented South Africa from scoring.

2. Chiamaka Nnadozie Shines Once More

Chiamaka Nnadozie was once again instrumental in Nigeria's defensive efforts against South Africa in Pretoria.

The Super Falcons' goalkeeper played a crucial role at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, making two important saves in the second leg to help Nigeria secure a narrow 1-0 win. 

Once again, Nnadozie demonstrated her skill in South Africa, playing a key role in Nigeria's clean sheet and qualification for the Olympics. 

Nnadozie remained composed and made vital saves to prevent Bayana Bayana from scoring.

3. Kgatlana Struggles Against Nigerian Defense

In Pretoria, Nigeria's defensive lineup effectively neutralized the impact of Thembi Kgatlana.

Despite being South Africa's captain and primary attacking threat, Kgatlana was rendered ineffective by the strong defensive efforts of the Nigerian Falcons.

4. Super Falcons' Misplaces Passes 

While they were praised for their defensive efforts, Nigeria faced challenges with their interplay on the field.

Players like Alozie and Toni Payne were particularly highlighted for their difficulties with passing, especially in the attacking zone.

These passing struggles resulted in the Falcons finding it hard to create scoring opportunities and put pressure on the South African defense line.

5. Okeke Shines in Plumptre's Absence

Due to injury, Plumptre was unavailable for the key match. Okeke stepped up to fill in at left back for the former Leicester City defender. 

The young defender impressed with her stellar performance, halting attacks on the left side and showcasing strong defensive play.
