'One of the best out-and-out wingers' - QPR pundit surprised Osayi-Samuel has been converted into a RB

Queens Park Rangers' pundit Louis Moir has expressed his surprise with the decision to convert Nigeria international Bright Osayi-Samuel into a right-back from being a right winger.

His opinion comes as no surprise as he watched Osayi-Samuel play for QPR mostly as either a right midfielder or a right winger during his stay at the club.

The 26-year-old also didn't play as a right back while playing for Blackpool, where he was a youth academy product, featuring also dominantly as a right midfielder or winger.

He became a right back after he joined Turkish outfit Fenerbahçe in 2021,making 67 appearances in that position since his arrival in Istanbul. 

Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Moir stated that he has been taken aback by the decision to convert the Blackpool Academy product to a fullback.

"With Bright Osayi-Samuel, I think when he left we lost a player who has tremendous speed and is certainly one of the best out-and-out wingers I've seen at the club in recent years because we haven't had many of those," Moir said.

"He's been in the Nigeria squad for the Africa Cup of Nations as well, so it's surprised me that he's changed into a right back.

"He's obviously got the pace for that and I wouldn't be surprised to see him back over in England, which would progress his career even more.

"To be fair to him, if he has adapted to right back that well, he can probably do that job for another team. It will be interesting to see what happens with him in the summer transfer window."

Osayi-Samuel is being linked with a return to English football with Leeds United being reported to be interested in his services. 

It has even been claimed by some Turkish outlets that the Championship outfit has made an opening bid for the Fenerbahçe star though it remains to be seen whether he would be moved further up the pitch just like he played during his stint at QPR and Blackpool.
