African Games: How Flying Eagles fell to 3-2 defeat against Senegal after Agada's 2nd minute opener
Published: March 15, 2024
Nigeria lost 3-2 to Senegal in their final group game of the 2023 African Games played on Friday night.
The Flying Eagles got off to a bright start with Charles Agada who started the game against Sudan from the bench, opening the scoring in as early as the second minute.
The lead would only last for 20 minutes as Idrissa Gueye drew level for Senegal and the winger would also put the Young Lions of Teranga ahead in the 28th minute.
Senegal would take the one-goal cushion to the break but Nigeria responded quickly upon the restart with Chibueze Izuogu restoring normalcy, five minutes into the second half.
The Young Lions of Teranga took the lead again in the 65th minute to break the heart of Ladan Bosso's boys.
Despite the reigning African Champions getting reduced to 10 men very late on in the game, they were able to hold their advantage and secure the maximum points at the end of the normal regulation time.
The result meant the Flying Eagles have been knocked out of the competition, finishing third in Group B with just three points gathered, four goals scored and five conceded.
