Paris 2024 Olympics qualifiers: Keep an eye on these three Super Falcons players against Cameroon
Published: February 21, 2024
The Super Falcons will take to the pitch on the 23rd and 26th of February as part of efforts to ensure qualification for the 2024 Olympics to be held in Paris when they take on the Indomitable lionesses of Cameroon in a double-header fixture in the Third round of the qualifiers.
Nigeria eased past Ethiopia in the previous round en route to this fixture and will hope to translate that momentum against a Cameroon side who will be without their star player Nchout Ajara Njoya, who pulled out of the squad due to injury.
As the Nigerian Super Falcons gear up for their crucial Paris 2024 Olympics qualifying double-header against Cameroon on February 23rd and 26th, allnigeriasoccer.com has identified three standout players who are expected to play pivotal roles in securing victory for the Super Falcons.
1. Ashleigh Plumptre
The Al-Ittihad full-back who returned to the squad for the first time since World Cup in July last year, is an absolute stalwart in defense as well as going forward in attack, showcasing her ability to shut down opposition attacks with her tactical awareness and exceptional wing-back traits.
Her presence on the field provides stability to the backline and adds an extra layer of protection to the team's goal whilst being a thorn in the flesh of the opposition's defense when attacking.
2. Jennifer Echegini
In midfield, the Juventus newbie who is having a good start to life at Turin is set to play a crucial role in dictating the tempo of the game.
A versatile and dynamic midfielder, Echegini possesses exceptional ball control, vision, passing range and goalscoring ability from power-shots.
Her ability to drive the ball forward, create scoring opportunities and be a goal threat from outside the penalty area makes her a key playmaker for the Super Falcons.
Against a very physical Cameroon side, Echegini's quality on the ball will be instrumental in unlocking their defense and supplying ammunition to the forwards.
3. Asisat Oshoala
The Reigning CAF Women's Player of the year is a constant nightmare for opposing defenders.
Oshoala's explosive pace, clinical finishing, and instinctive goal-scoring ability make her one of the most dangerous forwards in women's football.
With her track record of delivering in high-pressure situations, Oshoala will be the focal point of Nigeria's attack against Cameroon.
Her knack for finding the back of the net could prove to be the difference-maker in securing victory for the Super Falcons.
