'Ronwen Williams is a very good GK' - Nwabali believes RSA captain was worthy winner of AFCON Golden Glove

Stanley Nwabali believes South Africa captain Ronwen Williams was a worthy winner of the Golden Glove award of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper won the Best Goalkeeper award after inspiring South Africa to win the bronze medal at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Williams etched his name into the history books as the first goalkeeper to ever save four penalties in a single AFCON shootout as South Africa defeated Cape Verde 2-1 on penalties, and saved another two penalties as Bafana Bafana beat Democratic Republic in the third place playoff.
It was a straight battle between Williams and Nwabali for the best goalkeeper award but the South African edged it on the back of his outstanding displays in the shootout wins against Cape Verde and Democratic Republic of Congo.
While Williams posted five clean sheets and conceded three goals over the course of the tournament, the Chippa United glovesman kept four clean sheets over the course of his seven appearances and conceded four goals.
Speaking in the mixed zone, Nwabali feels that the impressive performances of Williams were enough for him to take the prize back to South Africa,
"Ronwen Williams is a very good goalkeeper to be honest. It's not news to me, him winning it, he deserves it. I am competing with this kind of guy and he has the chance to win the best goalkeeper of the tournament, he deserves it. I wish him well, I give him credit," Nwabali said.
Williams registered 20 saves at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, more than any other goalkeeper, and was also the stat leader for save percentage (90.9), goals against per 90 (0.39) and clean sheets (5).
