Super Eagles starting XI v Angola: Nwabali, Troost-Ekong, Osimhen start; Iwobi, Onyeka double pivot
Published: February 02, 2024
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that the Nigeria starting lineup to face Angola in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations has been announced by manager Jose Peseiro ahead of the team's departure to the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium.
The big news sees Stanley Nwabili included in the starting lineup after passing a fitness test on the eve of the meeting with the Palancas Negras.
The Chippa United glovesman suffered a mild ligament injury during the second half of the Super Eagles' 2-0 win over the Indomitable Lions last weekend.
Captain for the game, William Troost-Ekong has shaken off a knock to be included in the starting lineup and forms part of a three-man defence that also includes Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi.
In what looks like a 3-4-3 formation, London-based Premier League players Alex Iwobi and Frank Onyeka start as the double pivot, while Zaidu Sanusi and Ola Aina have been deployed at wing-backs with the Chelsea academy product on the right and the Porto star on the left.
Reigning African Footballer of the Year Victor Osimhen leads the Nigeria attack and is flanked by Ademola Lookman and Moses Simon.
