Angola team news: Dangerman Gelson Dala, top assister Fredy get the medical green light to face Nigeria
Published: February 02, 2024
Angola national team coach Pedro Gonçalves will be able to count on the services of two key players Gelson Dala and Fredy on Friday evening when they face African powerhouse Nigeria in the quarterfinal of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to Angola Press Agency, Dala and Fredy have been cleared by Angola national team doctors to take to the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium pitch in Abidjan this evening.
Dala is the second top scorer at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations with four goals and also has an assist to his name, while attacking midfielder Fredy, who is the captain of the Palancas Negras, is the joint top assister at the AFCON with three.
Both players did not complete the round of 16 match versus Angola due to physical problems.
An MRI showed that Fredy was suffering from just a trauma, while Dala has overcome a chronic old injury that keeps resurfacing.
Clermont Foot winger Jérémie Bela who was excused from camp to witness the birth of his son is back with the squad.
Gelson Magala has temporarily joined the squad to replace Neblú who is unavailable for selection against Nigeria due to a suspension following the straight red card he was shown versus Namibia.
