Published: January 16, 2024
Terem Moffi has admitted that the Super Eagles are under pressure at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria last won the competition in 2013 which was the the third time in the country's history and are seeking to lift the tournament once again this year
They haven't started the campaign on the best note having failed to secure maximum points in their first game against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday afternoon.
The West African side will be heading into their next game against Ivory Coast under massive pressure as they need to record their first victory of the tournament which will put them in a good position ahead of the final game against Guinea Bissau.
Speaking in an interview, Moffi has revealed that the Super Eagles are under pressure as the players are aware of the importance of the tournament.
"The pressure is real, it is a big competition. We know what is at stake, we know what Nigerians want and we know what we want as well," Moffi said to Latifat Adebayo-Ohio.
"The pressure is real, we have to stay focused".
The OGC Nice forward was initially omitted by José Peseiro in his 25-man squad but had to come in to replace the injured Victor Boniface.
He is one of the few players who is yet to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations and it remains to be seen how much role he would play considering the circumstances surrounding his invitation.
